CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. Whether you're skating for fun or preparing for figure skating, hockey, or ringette, CanSkate builds the fundamental skills needed to succeed on the ice.

Led by NCCP-trained professional coaches and supported by program assistants, CanSkate follows a nationally-tested curriculum focused on three key areas: Balance, Control, and Agility. Skaters progress through six stages of learning, earning badges, ribbons to celebrate their achievements.

Lessons are delivered in a group format with a low coach-to-skater ratio, ensuring personalized attention and a fun, engaging environment. Sessions feature upbeat music, teaching aids, and active circuits to keep skaters motivated and moving.

To participate, all you need are:

  • Skates

  • A CSA-approved hockey helmet

  • Long pants (splash pants, snow pants)

  • Mittens

  • A warm sweater or jacket (layers recommended—it gets warm out there!)
